Job Position Description
Position Title: Service Technician
This position is in the Service Department and is based out of Carolina Pride Carwash Systems & Solutions, Inc. Service Department.
The basic function of this position is to install and service the equipment and related systems at the lowest possible cost for the quality specified. Service work may be on-site or in-house. Service is provided every day of each calendar year. All Service Technicians are required to be on call on a rotational basis at night, on weekends and on holidays.
The individuals in this position report directly to the Service Manager. There are no employees reporting to the Service Technician.
The Service Technician is authorized to represent the company when at a customer site. Service Technicians are not authorized to remove parts from the Parts Department. All parts (in vehicles) must be obtained from the Parts Manager. In absence of Parts Manager, contact Service and Production Manager for parts replacement or requisition. It is important to adhere to this job cost control and profitability.
The Service Technician has the following responsibilities:
- Conduct with customers reflecting courtesy, integrity and good workmanship
- Completing specified assignments in as little time as required meeting quality standards
- Safeguard company and customer information and valuable equipment
- Complete all records of contacts, time and travel on a daily basis
- Maintain the highest level of skills for installation and service of specified systems
- Train customer personnel on equipment use
- Be aware of ways to save the company money
- Provide a status of service work performed in-house or on-site per sales ticket
- Assist in construction of new equipment
- Install new and used equipment
- Deliver soap and supplies to customer
- Comply with pertinent codes and regulations, i.e., OSHA
- Must be able to read and understand the English language
- Must have steel-toed work shoes or boots, and must always wear them when on duty for Carolina Pride
- Assist in the training of new Service Technicians
- Understands that there may be other duties to perform as needed that are not itemized in this job description
- Must be prepared to pass the in-house Level I service exam within 8 weeks of hiring, and pass the in-house Level II exam within 6 months of hiring
The following list of Duties must be accomplished according to the schedule. Most of these are to be accomplished each day unless otherwise specified.
- Call the Service Manager before leaving a job site
- Contact customer to get a clear view of the problem
- Assist customers and distributors over the telephone
- Be properly equipped for service work
- Arrive on time at the customer site
- Perform necessary repairs or installation per service calls assigned by supervisor
- Fix customer problems
- Contact vendors for information
- Answer any questions from the customer
- Clean and inspect service vehicles each week
- Prepare a Fuel Report of hours, materials, and conditions for installations
- Restock the service vehicle upon return to the warehouse
- Completes Customer Profile forms
- Maintain a neat appearance and wear proper clothing
- Clean and inventory proper tools and parts on vehicle
- Accurate billing and safe handling of funds, as needed
- Perform all other reasonably comparable tasks as required by the Service Manager
- Do in-shop service in a timely and efficient manner
- Furnish own tools, as required
- Return “checked out” specialty tools to the warehouse
- Assist with equipment demos and set up of equipment
- Maintain a clean & organized work area. There is “a place for everything and everything in its place”. Return company tools to their proper location
- Respect others workspace
- Adheres to customer’s safety policies
- Documents timesheet in a timely and accurate manner
Physical Demands of this position require mobility to maneuver around customer sites plus moderate physical work that involves some heavy lifting with a minimum of 125 lbs. and use of both small and large hand tools. This individual is require to have the ability to operate a motor vehicle & drive hundreds of miles each week. Sight and hearing may be corrected to accomplish these tasks.
Mental Demands include working knowledge of electronics & electrical circuits, plumbing, pressurized systems, regulations for proper handling of hazardous chemicals, ability to read and understand schematic electrical drawings and installation instructions. In addition, he/she must have mathematical ability to count and inventory, interpret job specifications, good verbal & written communication, good people skills and ability to make quality control decisions.
Working Conditions may require the wearing of safety equipment when on site. The work involves routine hazards of operating equipment and hazardous and/or pressurized chemicals present. Working conditions may include heat & cold temperatures; dust and noise.

The performance of the technicians will be graded and measured on the following criteria:
Jobs will be completed correctly according to specifications within estimated time. There will be few if any instances of customer concerns, rework, and warranty work, extra-unplanned trips and personal time during working hours. Contact with the Service Manager will be in line with current policy. Vehicles will be operated with care and compliance with legal requirements. Paperwork will be completed according to policy. Time will be accurately reported. Obtaining the continuous training and knowledge and mastery of the skills for the systems serviced. Professionalism must be demonstrated in dealing with customers.
